There is lapped, butted timber fence, capped or uncapped, exposed posts. Butted is when just 1 layer of palings is nailed to the fence edge to edge and over lapped it when the first layer has a space between them of approximately 70 mm and the a second layer is nailed over the top, giving the name lapped. You can see, there are many styles and designs that can be offered.
1 (most common) – Overlapped Paling. That means 2 layers of palings with a space between the first layer of palings, giving that style its name, Overlapped Pailing Fencing.
2 Butted Timber Fences – a single layer with no spacing at time of instal.
3 Lapped and Capped, this is Style 1 with in Paling Fences with a capping of the fence at the same height as the top rail.
