Beachside Currumbin: salt decides the material

Within a few streets of the surf, salt is the whole conversation. Untreated steel and cheap fixings rust out fast, and a fence that looked fine at handover shows rust bleed within a couple of summers. On the beach blocks we use marine-grade fixings, seal the cut edges on site and avoid putting dissimilar metals in contact at the fixing points. For properties right up against breaking surf, BlueScope recommend Colorbond Stainless and we quote that on request rather than pretending standard sheeting will do the same job.

Blocks near the beach are also small and close together, so we spend more time on set-out than we would inland. A fence that is 40mm out over a short run is obvious.

Currumbin Valley: acreage, slope and long runs

Up the Valley the job changes completely. Boundaries are long, the ground falls away, and you are usually fencing to keep something in or mark a line rather than to block a neighbour’s view. That means post spacing and strainer placement matter more than colour matching, and the fence has to follow the fall of the land properly instead of leaving gaps under it.

What fencing lasts near the surf at Currumbin?

Colorbond with marine-grade fixings and sealed cut edges, or aluminium, which does not rust at all. For a property right on the breaking surf we quote Colorbond Stainless, because standard sheeting will not give you the same life that close to the water.

Do you fence acreage in Currumbin Valley?

Yes. Long boundary runs, sloping ground, farm-style gates and driveway entries are all normal work for us up the Valley.
